BOOMERANG is available for performances, residencies, commissions, site specific creations, and educational outreach programs in a variety of settings, including colleges, museums, K-12 schools, and community centers.

CLASSES

Resilience in motion

The physical research of these classes demands athleticism and verve, as well as attention to detail. There will be lively investigations that utilize core strength and release technique principles to create an enlivened presence. Full-throttle and roller-coaster motion via momentum-based floor work and inversions will be met with point-on-precision. Dancers will learn about and experience the nuances of being on the edge of control.

Integrated Motion for Athletes

Athletes will learn to work with principles of balance, strength, and flexibility to enhance core-strength integration and endurance. Matty Davis, an experienced multi-sport athlete, has worked with many athletes, age groups, and ability levels.

Movement for All Ages, From Kids to Senior Citizens

BOOMERANG can create movement experiences that ignite a genuine passion for moving, accommodating all levels of experience. Kora Radella has extensive experience teaching and working with children, teenagers, college students, and the elderly.

Yoga beyond the mat

Radella is a certified yoga teacher (500 RYT) and can offer yoga classes for all levels as well as dance courses focused on integrating dance and yoga.

EXPERIENTIAL WORKSHOPS

Choreography

This workshop will guide participants in the assimilation and deployment of their inner resources to explore movement invention that reflects and challenges each person’s movement history.  This material will be integrated with explorations of how to be a fully present, live body. Participants will be further guided in the creation of solo works that both honor their backgrounds and stretch them beyond their comfort zones. Working towards physical necessity and making motion matter through subjecting oneself to precarious balances via momentum and three-dimensional disorientation, the participants will discover a mix of athleticism and sensitivity that is essential to BOOMERANG’s work. A showing of BOOMERANG solo works will be shared with the participants.

Partnering

This workshop will focus on BOOMERANG's partnering and duet work. Utilizing skills from contact improvisation and athletics, participants will research duet work that comes from physical necessity v.s. decorative posturing.  We will hone in on ways to work with a partner that challenges them physically while offering attention that chisels away at artifice and discovers primal human interactions that require active listening and empathy.

Repertory

Learn what it feels like to be within BOOMERANG movement from the actual choreography! Participants will experience firsthand our unique combination of highly physical and sensitized, vulnerable work.

Working with Text & Visual Art

Generating text and movement will be approached through a variety of techniques that allow for the exfoliation of creative possibilities for both verbal and nonverbal communication. Strategies for creation, as well as editing, will be key in this workshop. Visual art has numerous functions within performance, from backdrop, to costuming, to being the locus of action.  This workshop will investigate the potential roles of object and mark-making within performance.  We will also approach building and creation strategies for participants' specific projects.

Lecture-Demonstrations with Dialogue

Lecture demonstrations are customized according to audience and location. BOOMERANG will share choreographic excerpts, discuss their movement research, shed light on their creation process, and expound upon how they integrate aspects of athletics, visual art, music, and text.

"The students LOVED your [Matty's] class!  They really enjoyed your attentiveness to each of them and genuine desire to see them all succeed at their own pace.  Thank you again."

July 2015: week-long workshop at TragantDansa in Barcelona taught by Kora Radella

I very much enjoyed the workshop with Kora Radella. It
threw me into places, both physical and mental, where I
usually don’t work. It inspired my artistic work and
it was exactly what I was looking for. - Henriette

PERFORMANCES IN ALTERNATIVE SPACES

"BOOMERANG's energy was infectious; Kora Radella and Matty Davis came into the classroom and got straight to work, warming up for the piece they were about to show my high school dance class. The serious rigor with which they got to work modeled the reality of physical research currently practiced in the professional field. Witnessing BOOMERANG'S live performance in an intimate space and hearing similar ideas and concepts that I had introduced to my class was extremely beneficial to their learning. The Q&A section about the work encouraged my students to think critically and ask questions. What emerged was the recognition of diversity in creative process and artistic aesthetic."
- Adriana Durant, Latin School of Chicago faculty
